Light painting has been around for as long as photography, but has gained traction in the past couple years in a time when people are struggling for new ways to set themselves apart from the competition. Light painting is certainly no easy task, and like everything takes much practice along with trial and error to get right. In this course Sam Tarrel, M. Photog, Cr., CPP will take you through the basics of his technique, and help you learn from the trials and errors he’s made in order to help you get a leg up when starting out on your light painting journey!
Join Sam Tarrel, M. Photog. Cr., CPP as he introduces you to the illuminating world of light painting. Sam will talk about the basic process of light painting from conceptual phase all the way through to post production. Sam will share some of the challenges he’s faced as well as some success, and will show you applications for light painting in both commercial photography and portraiture.

Sam Tarrel, M.Photog.Cr.,CPP
Sam Tarrel is a Fine Art Portrait and Commercial photographer in Hillsboro, Oregon. In January 2017 he left his job of 5 years at Lifetouch portrait studios and is now 100% focused on running his own business, Light Science Studios.
Sam is extremely active in image competition and his passion for photography is rivaled only by his passion for teaching and educating others. His ultimate goal is always to help each student achieve the most they can in their craft.
He is very active in the Oregon PPA and holds his Certification with PPA. He is an informative and engaging instructor, committed to his industry and colleagues, and his students always come away with a greater understanding and confidence in their work after working with him.
